Nintendo Switch specs rumors: Current gen ports absent from hybrid console

(Facebook/ NintendoSwitch)The Nintendo Switch will arrive in March this year.

The highly anticipated hybrid console, Nintendo Switch, has been plagued by speculations as of late. Apart from its rumored non-removable battery, it has been said that the gaming console will not have current generation ports for AAA titles.

Sebastian Aaltonen, who used to be Ubisoft's senior rendering head, took to the Beyond3D forum to reveal the news.

"Around 50% of modern game engine frame time goes to running compute shaders," he wrote, adding, "25.6 GB/s is pretty low as everybody knows that 68 GB/s of Xbox One isn't that great either. ESRAM is needed to reach good performance. But I am talking about the POV of down porting current gen games to Switch. Switch certainly fares well against last gen consoles."

However, Aaltonen continued to say that it's "too bad last gen consoles already got their last big AAA releases year ago. Easy ports between Xbox 360 and Switch are not available anymore."

It was previously reported that an FCC filing gave light to another specification of the upcoming Nintendo Switch. Players will be unable to replace the battery on the console as the filing revealed that the Switch may not come with a removable one. As such, if the hybrid console ends up going through the same battery problem as the Wii U did, then it would be virtually impossible for Nintendo to easily release a fix.

It can be recalled that the Wii U was panned by the public for its short battery life, but the gaming company was able to appease the uproar by doling out new battery packs.

Despite these rumored specifications, anticipation for the Nintendo Switch — the first hybrid console with detachable controllers for those on-the-go — has not wavered. Marketing and promotion for the console continue to charge at full speed, with numerous advertisements spotted all over.

Since these speculations have not been confirmed yet, though, readers should take this news with a grain of salt.
