'Once Upon a Time' season 6 spoilers, plot: Greek god of sleep and dreams to send messages to Belle

(Facebook/Once Upon a Time)"Once Upon a Time" is weaving in Greek mythology into the series, too, as Morpheus, the god of sleep and dreams, is ushered into the series' season 6.

A new character is coming to Storybrooke, and he is no less than Morpheus, not the one from the "Matrix" movie, though, but the god of dreams and sleep in the Greek mythology.

In an exclusive report, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Giles Matthey will be breathing life to the character of the Greek god. The actor was part of the hit series "24" and was also seen on "True Blood," "The Good Wife," and "NCIS."

At this point in time, though, it remains uncertain as to whether Morpheus will be friend or foe of the heroes in "Once Upon a Time" when the tweaked fairytale series returns for its sixth season. However, there is a good chance for the character to be on the good side.

For the uninitiated, Greek mythology says that Morpheus has the ability to appear in dreams of humans and is the one responsible for creating dreams as a person sleeps, usually sending them divine messages of future events through the images he creates. The idiomatic expression "in the arms of Morpheus" means that one is sound asleep as it is said that he is also like the Sandman who can make people fall asleep soundly.

With the inclusion of Matthey as Morpheus in "Once Upon a Time" season 6, it is now believed that he will play an important role in the story, especially that upon the conclusion of the previous season, Belle (Emilie de Ravin) is still under a sleep curse. Rumor has it that Morpheus will send Belle important messages before she snaps out from the curse.

Earlier, it was also reported that "Once Upon a Time" season 6 will be adapting stories from "One Thousand and One Nights," the Arabic counterpart of fairytales. With this, viewers can expect the show to have a touch of Middle Eastern tales, too, as Sinbad and Scheherazade cross the paths of the "Once Upon a Time" characters.

With Western fairytale, Greek mythology, and Arabic characters, there is no denying that "Once Upon a Time" season 6 is something every childlike fan can look forward to. The good news is that the wait may not be too long as "Once Upon a Time" is all set to return to ABC for its sixth season run on Sept. 25 at 8/7 C.
