OnePlus 3 release date: device to launch in virtual reality with OnePlus Loop VR

(OnePlus)OnePlus 3 to soon launch in virtual reality

OnePlus is about to launch its fourth smartphone dubbed OnePlus 3. And, just like last year, it plans to make the launch in virtual reality (VR).

But of course, while the Chinese smartphone manufacturer may be following last year's launch format, it made sure to give its fans something new to look forward to.

The VR setting will be exhibiting a futuristic OnePlus headquarters in space and is called The Loop. What's more is that the company has given away 30,000 of its very own VR headset — OnePlus Loop VR — and it's a great leap from last year, when it did a VR launch using Google's Cardboard.

"Forget cardboard, this year we're excited to bring you the OnePlus Loop VR Headset," said Carl Pei, chief executive of OnePlus. "Loop VR is beautiful, and developed together with our buddies at AntVR who are pros at VR optics. We're confident that this year's experience will be vastly improved."

The fans who were able to gain access to the Loop VR will also have priority in ordering OnePlus 3, as they can make the order using the OnePlus' headset. The rest of the world will have to wait for when the company would actually release the smartphone into the market. Fans already know that it takes a bit of skill and patience to land the flagship phones of the company, as it is known to host limited sales windows in order to control the release of its limited supply.

While the Loop VR has given fans more than enough to be excited about, the features of OnePlus 3 itself is already enough to be hyped about.

Reportedly, the latest smartphone will have an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display, which means faster response time but with lesser battery usage; a 5-inch screen display, a 16 megapixel back camera and a 6-megapixel front camera; and, it will be running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The company also made clear that it has no intentions of making its products exclusive to the Loop VR. In fact, Pei tweeted that despite the introduction of Loop VR together with the upcoming OnePlus 3, the smartphone can be used using any other VR headsets.

There is still no specific launch date, but a CNET article says the launch is bound to happen in June. Updates can be viewed via the OnePlus website.
