'Orange Is the New Black' season 5 speculations: What will happen to Daya?

(Facebook/Orange is the New Black)"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 will take off where seaoson 4 ended. It remains to be seen whether Daya pulls the trigger or not.

Daya Diaz (Dascha Polanco) is arguably the most important character in the previous season finale of "Orange Is the New Black." While waiting for the premiere of season 5, viewers are wondering whether she pulls the trigger or not.

It would be recalled that after the death of Poussey (Samira Wiley), the inmates got really emotional. In a riot that occurred after the investigation of her death, Daya got hold of Corrections Officer Thomas Humphrey's (Michael Torpey) gun and aimed it at his head.

The first question viewers want answered is whether she pulls the trigger or not, while the other inmates are cheering on her. Whether she fires the gun or not, it is popularly speculated that she will be sent to the Special Housing Unit (SPU) anyway because of the events that took place.

It is also expected that other officers will give her and other inmates a harder time. Given the emotional trauma Daya has gone through in the past seasons, it is also widely speculated that Correctional Officer John Bennett (Matt McGorry) will return. Matt and Daya had a relationship and both had a child whom the latter thought has died.

It will not be a sweet reunion, however, since Matt abandoned Daya after proposing to her. But many are hoping that the two will fix things between them and they eventually find out the whereabouts of their daughter.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Polanco describes the state of mind of Daya. She said, "She's in a dark place. Dayanara's a victim of her circumstance. It's a cycle that keeps on repeating itself. She's been fighting if for so long and no way of her fighting it. Right now it's her accepting thing and I think she's over it."

Polanco was also asked what she thinks Daya would do and she said she thinks she will pull the trigger adding, "I think Daya's definitely experiencing some postpartum depression. She might pull back and think about being a mother and not wanting to miss the opportunity of being with her child. But a woman going through postpartum — at that point, they're very fragile and very sensitive."

"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 is currently in production and is expected to premiere in 2017 on Netflix.
