'Outlander' season 3 spoilers: More adventures, sea voyages and pirates; an older Jamie?

(Facebook / Outlander)"Outlander" season 3 is currently in production.

"Outlander" just wrapped up its second installment last week but the attention is already on the next season.

The season 2 finale ended on a major cliffhanger with Jamie (Sam Heughan) letting go of the love of his life Claire (Caitriona Balfe) as she is about to enter the Standing Stones. When everyone thought that Jamie would die at the Battle of Culloden, it was a relief to know that the show ended bringing hope that the lovers will soon be reunited.

However, what happens to Jamie after Claire traveled through time via the stones remains unclear and fans will have to wait for season 3 to know the answers. So far, what's known is that Claire will do anything to go back in time to find Jamie in the 18th century.

With Claire seen as an older woman in the finale, it can also be expected that Jamie will be shown in his older self when season 3 returns. Heughan shared in an interview with Variety that fans will soon see a different side to his character – one who doesn't have his loving wife by his side.

"She will eventually return, but they're both older, so who is the man he's become age-wise, physically? I think that's the joy of the show, it's never the same thing, it's constantly moving, so next season should be quite an adventure."

Heughan also revealed that season 3 will feature more travels starting in Scotland. There will be sea voyages and even pirates, he told Entertainment Weekly.

"Outlander" season 3 is currently in production and script writing is ongoing, as revealed by series executive producer Ronald D. Moore. "The writers room is well underway, and we have scripts for the first two, three episodes," Moore shared with Deadline. "We're in preproduction at the moment. We won't start shooting again until late August, early September," he added.
