PlayStation 5 release date update: Console to arrive in 2018?

(Facebook/PlayStation)Sony's PlayStation 5 is rumored to arrive in 2018.

Even though Sony has just refreshed its PlayStation 4 lineup with the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim, fans are already wondering when the company plans to release the PlayStation 5. And it looks like fans will only need to wait roughly two years before getting their hands on one.

It has been said that the PlayStation 5 may arrive in the market sooner than initially expected due to the popularity of gaming consoles. Even though the PlayStation 4 has only been around for a couple of years, it is believed that the PlayStation 5 may come out in the second half of 2018.

As far as analyst Damian Thong is concerned, 2018 is the right assumption. According to GameZone, Thong has predicted a 2018 release for the highly anticipated PlayStation 5. It should be noted that Thong accurately predicted the release of the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim, so he may be onto something. But it is also advisable to take the news with a grain of salt, especially since Sony has not spoken out on the matter yet.

But with the market rapidly changing, and consumers becoming more willing to refresh their gadgets and electronics every now and then, console makers like Sony may take notice and shorten the waiting time in between releases. This could lead to the PlayStation 5 being released earlier.

As for what to expect from the PlayStation 5, fans will be treated to a 4K display in all its glory. Since 4K resolution is quickly becoming a staple in the tech industry, it wouldn't come as a surprise if Sony opted for the same for the fifth console. It is also believed that the PlayStation 5 will boast 60 frames per second.

There have also been rumors circulating that the PlayStation 5 may go digital for good. Since CDs are fastly becoming obsolete, there may come a time when they are no longer needed. Could that time be 2018? That remains to be seen.
