"Pokémon Go" is an augmented-reality game that allows users to catch and battle Pokémon, much like the characters in the popular franchise. For this reason, it's understandable that such a wide fan base is in anticipation of the game's release and they scour the Internet for any details they can find. Lately, U.S. fans were treated to a special announcement in the form of a field test.

A few countries have already been lucky enough to have field tests done in their respective territories, and many American fans were wondering when they would be given the same opportunity. Niantic Labs announced on Monday, May 16 that field testing has been increased to include the United States.

In order to sign up, fans were advised to visit http://pokemongo.nianticlabs.com and fill out details. The signup required each user to have a Google Account and either an Android 4.3 OS or higher, or an iPhone 5 with iOS 8 or higher. There is also a confidentiality agreement that users are asked to browse and accept. Of course, signing up does not automatically assure a spot on the field test.

In anticipation of the game, fans have been flocking to online threads like Reddit for any news and discussions pertaining to "Pokémon Go." Since many fans have already been privy to details of the game after going through beta testing, many pieces of information are making rounds. However, discussions are mostly comprised of what users may need while playing the game itself.

Some of the suggestions include extra food and water supplies, power banks, sunglasses and an umbrella. It is also advised that users go out more since Pokémon may be found anywhere. The game will especially be fun during long trips.

As for a release date, nothing specific has been announced by either Niantic Labs or The Pokémon Company. The general speculation though is that the game will be released sometime in the summer of 2016.

Stay tuned for the latest news and updates.
