'Power' season 3 release date will be some time June 2016; cameras are already rolling

"Power" season three has yet to pin a date for its release but fans can now rest assured that it is happening and premiering some time in 2016, as the show has just begun production. Fans of rapper, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, also have more to expect from him and Starz.

New York City has such a colorful landscape, from its lifestyle to the underground (and not-so underground) drug trade. It is then the most perfect background for Starz's "Power" TV series, which stars Omari Hardwick as Ghost and which focuses on his journey toward "coming clean." Its richness in plot and twists have made it the network's most-watched original production, with a total viewership of 3.62 million. It was then not a surprise that it was renewed for another 10-episode season.

While Starz has yet to pinpoint "Power's" exact return, it announced that production has started early this month and is currently well underway in New York. Filming is being done in the "home base" of the series in Brooklyn's Steiner Studios. Considering post-production and promotion, the show is expected to fall in June 2016.

On top of "Power," though, executive producer, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, is also expected to deliver more goods for the cable channel. He has just signed a deal that will allow him and his G-Unit Film & Television, Inc. to continue work on the drama series and produce new projects, too.

"Starz has been the perfect partner to make 'Power' the success that it is and I am looking forward to developing many more record-breaking series with them," 50 Cent tells Variety.

Starz managing director, Carmi Zlotnik, also had praises for the rapper. She says they wanted him fully onboard with the network as he had been such a hands-on producer on "Power."

The third season of the American drama does follow a tough act, as season two piloted to a total of 1.43 million viewers. It was the highest debut for any other Starz shows. "Power" aims to make the new season bigger by bringing back most of its powerhouse cast: Hardwick, Naturi Naughton (as Tasha), J.R. Ramirez (Julio), and of course Jackson (Kanan).

Stay tuned for updates.
