Fox's breakout series "Prison Break" is confirmed to return for season 5 after ending its run in 2009 as Fox has officially ordered new episodes, the network confirmed to the press at the Television Critics Association (TCA)'s winter press tour earlier last month.

Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will reprise their lead roles as brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows. Michael, though, was seen dead in the television movie "Prison Break: The Final Break." He had to sacrifice himself to save Lincoln and a pregnant Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies).

A report from Entertainment Weekly said that Fox co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman disclosed, however, that there will be a twist aimed to explain why Michael did not really die and what he could possibly be doing in the interim.

The issue that is coming up with this plan on the series storyline is that Paul Scheuring, showrunner and writer, and his team must also explain how Michael could possibly survive his brain tumor.

Meanwhile, the two lead actors have their hands already full with shooting for CW's 16-episode "Legends of Tomorrow." Purcell spoke to TVLine during the TCA winter press event in Pasadena confirming the the two networks, Warner Bros. and Fox, are ironing things out to make it possible for "Prison Break" to move forward.

Miller added, "[W]e are hopeful that we'll be able to shoot something this spring. 'Prison Break' is taking its cue from 'Legends [of Tomorrow]', which is the priority. So we're aiming for spring."

As to the storyline of the upcoming season, fans should expect the characters to be dealing with things fast forward into the future. Fox CEO Dana Walden said, "[The 10-episode arc] definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience."

There is no official announcement yet as to when the fifth season will premiere.
