'Pyre' release date, news: Versus mode revealed during PSX 2016

"Pyre" has set itself apart from other games in the market with its unique gameplay and storytelling, thus another reveal during the PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, California created an even bigger buzz for the title. This time around, Supergiant Games introduces the Versus mode for "Pyre."
On a PlayStation blog post, creative director Greg Kasavin explained their idea on a one-on-one competition between two players. He explained that the Versus mode is already a multiplayer game in itself, considering "Pyre" is, after all, a party-based role-playing game (RPG), allowing a player to control multiple characters at once.
"Our focus during development has first and foremost been the single-player campaign experience, and creating the interesting and memorable cast of characters you'll get to know during your journey," Kasavin said. He also added, "Multiplayer was something we also thought had a lot of potential, but was something we were only going to pursue if we felt we could pull it off without compromising on our ambitions for the single-player. We had to get to this point in development to make sure of that."
The objective of the Versus mode is to extinguish the pyre of an opposing player by means of strategy in deploying the celestial orb, which can be done by either driving a character into the opponent's pyre with it or throwing it.
Kasavin also explained that as of the moment, Versus mode will be supporting local play, which means the players will be using the same PS4. Development is underway in creating an option to fight against the computer, which gamers can expect in the future.
"Pyre" is a one-of-a-kind party-based RPG that deals with concepts of a mystical purgatory. The player controls a band of exiles that engages in special rituals against other groups, which will determine who makes it back to their homes, absolved of their sins. The winners get to return on land, while the losing parties get to suffer an eternal exile.
"Pyre" will be creating flames of excitement on PS4 and Microsoft Windows platforms in 2017.
