'Quantico' season 2 latest news, spoilers: Russell Tovey joins cast

(Quantico / Facebook)"Quantico" season 2 enlists Russell Tovey to play as Harry Doyle.

ABC's FBI thriller series "Quantico's" renewal for a second season was the biggest news fans of the show have received last March. Another good news is the addition of actor Russell Tovey next season as Haryy Doyle.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Tovey will join as Doyle, a mischievous gadabout. His character is described as a combination of Thomas Crown and Artful Dodger, who could be anything he wanted.

"Ever since being introduced to him in 'The History Boys' 10 years ago, I've hoped to work with Russell. It's been an honor for the writers and myself to be able to create this role specifically for him," showrunner Josh Safran said.

Tovey starred in the HBO comedy "Looking," which is slated to air its series finale on July 23 after its two-season run.

Safran also revealed in an interview with TV Line what fans can expect from season 2. He said that the start of season 2 will reveal an unexpected twist that is related to Alex's role at the CIA. "We're very interested in the fact that the FBI's so much about being honest, truthful and living up to your badge and the CIA is the opposite. You succeed if you can deceive. So it's going to be interesting to see. It's like a funhouse mirror of what we've seen," he explained.

It can be remembered that in season 1 finale, Alex was seen leaving the FBI after getting an offer to work for the CIA. However, her answer to the job offer was not revealed.

Safran shared on the Entertainment Weekly as well that the writing team is interested in showcasing the differences between the CIA and the FBI. He wanted to juxtapose the two law enforcement agencies and show how both sides work together as a whole and as separate agencies.

The official premiere date of "Quantico" season 2 is yet to be revealed.
