'Resident Evil 7: Biohazard' release date news: VR-ready game to launch Jan. 24, 2017

"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" will have a different release date than expected. Fans were surprised when Capcom showed a clip related to the game at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June. The company revealed that they will be dropping the upcoming game on Jan. 24, 2017.
This news is understandably shocking to many since Capcom usually releases its titles in the spring or fall. That isn't to say that they've never dropped games in other times — it's just not the usual trend they've adopted. However, there is a reason behind the move that they ultimately decided on. According to Antoine Molant, Capcom's EMEA Marketing Director, it boils down to the progress in development.
"Historically, we have released quite a lot of games in January and it has gone well," Molant told MCV UK in an interview. "To be honest, there's a development reason - it's not going to be ready before Christmas, and we don't want a game that's unfinished."
"Just look at April and May this year, even spring is getting congested. Q1 is going to be mental next year — you saw that from the announcements at E3," he continued.
It's quite a clever, albeit bold, move. A January release will definitely set them apart from the competition and make them more noticeable. Plus, it all works out for the better since they are not yet ready, progress-wise.
Additionally, a bit of game footage was unveiled at the E3 and it is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Blood and gore fans will be pleased as it featured quite a violent scene. But perhaps the most exciting thing about it was the virtual reality (VR) aspect of it all.
"Honestly, I find it a bit too scary," Katsuhiko Ichii, Capcom's European boss, joked. He added that there may be a crop of enthusiasts out there who will play it in VR all the way, and then there are those who want to simply play it normally. There's also the option of utilizing both elements.
Right now, teasers are all fans will get. But since the game will be released in the winter, there's still time to save up to purchase the game in 2017.
