'Revenge', 'Castle', 'Hart of Dixie' and 'The Mindy Project' cancellations may be around the corner

Seeing your favorite show's final season or reading up an announcement of it being booted from the network is one of the most devastating news fans can receive.

In the next few weeks, leading up to May, executive producers of major networks will start negotiations and make announcements regarding which shows are being renewed and which ones will be given the boot. Here's a list of shows walking the tight rope between renewal and cancellation and the reason why:

1. Revenge – Emily Throne/Amanda Clarke's story opened to sizeable viewer ratings in season one during which the show peaked creatively. However, since then, "Revenge" has been going downhill with lower viewer ratings and decreased audience interest.

Fortunately, David Clarke's resurrection and Amanda's recent confession of her true identity may salvage the show or renew it for a shortened fifth season. However, the show's creator, Sunil Nayar, has hinted in several interviews that its current season will give fans a satisfying conclusion to Emily Throne's story.

2. Hart Of Dixie – On March 27, fans may see the last of Zoe, Wade, Lemon, Lavon, George and Annabeth as several hints indicate the episode will be a series finale rather than a season finale. Not only has creator Leila Gerstein dropped a slew of hints on Twitter, but star Scott Porter recently deleted a tweet that made it apparent the show would be axed by CW due to its low viewer ratings.

3. The Mindy Project – NBC actually owns the rights to FOX's "The Mindy Project" and despite strong critical support, the show hasn't been doing well in terms of viewer ratings. The only silver lining is that another network could pick it up (like Netflix picked up "Longmire" after A&E axed it) but prospects of a renewal by FOX are bleak.

4. Castle – While ratings haven't dipped significantly for season seven, stars Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic don't have any contract deals for season eight yet. There are rumors that ABC could order a shortened eight, and final, season.

5. CSI – Ratings are down and with the show having a fairly long run (it just wrapped up season 15), the series may have run its course.
