The mid-season finale of Revenge season 4 was aired, and unexpected events unfolded, including a shocking revelation of a pregnancy and of course, a death.

The beginning of the mid-season finale of Revenge started with a revelation from Daniel that he got her on-and-off girlfriend, Margaux, pregnant. This signalled a new life for Daniel, but it wasn't enough for him to cling to his own life as he was seen sacrificing his life to save Emily at the end of the episode. Emily was obviously emotional, saying that what she felt was real and that she "didn't fake everything" with Daniel.

Show runner Sunil Nayar explained Daniel's death to TVLine, saying that the producers and Josh Bowman had a talk about the demise at the beginning of the season.

"Josh [Bowman] and I spoke at the beginning of the season about the journey we wanted to take Daniel on," said Nayar to TVLine.

Nayar added that the death kept the story interesting and shifting, and it was something that the viewers certainly did not expect, especially with the revelation at the beginning of the episode.

"He and I were on the same page, wanting to take a big swing at the end of our winter finale, and wanting to see if we could do it in a redemptive way; that moment between [Emily and Daniel] was so beautiful at the end. It was also a way for us to keep shifting what the show is about so we never get complacent and the audience never knows what's coming next," continued Nayar.

It seems that Emily is having quite the bad luck when it comes to her love interests. First, Aiden Mathis was killed and then Daniel left the show during the mid-season finale. When the show returns in January, Emily will sure be tougher, and will carry more baggage on her that should make her enemies more afraid than they ever were.
