'Rick and Morty' season 3: fan theories shut down

"Rick and Morty" fans were undeniably overjoyed to find out that production for the third season had already begun. With that, its originally intended early 2017 release date might be brought forward to late 2016. The anticipation is only heightening even more, with many fans constructing endless theories about the universe located in the popular hit series.
These fan theories are so elaborate that they sometimes consist of the minutest of details. Unfortunately, creator Dan Harmon put a stop to all the supposed speculations.
Speaking to AV Club about the fandom and its nonstop churning of countless theories, Harmon said that the possibility of them actually being brought to life is slim.
"You cannot write payoff-based TV anymore because the audience is essentially a render farm. They have an unlimited calculation capacity. There's no writers' room that can think more than 20 million people who can think about it for an hour a day," he explained.
Harmon then compared it to "Dexter" and its supposed big reveal being exposed too early in the season by a fan on Reddit.
Additionally, Harmon and co-creator Justin Roiland have managed to keep the upcoming season's plot from being spoiled. Regardless, this has not stopped fans from coming up with speculations about the new season. Some of these include time traveling and a Rick from a different universe being the one who was jailed.
On the bright side, fans can now pre-order season 2 of "Rick and Morty" on Blu-Ray and DVD on Amazon. The package comes with tons of extras and bonuses, including commentaries and storyboards, perfect for a committed fan of the show. The sets will be released on June 7.
The people behind the show have also been teasing fans via Twitter—posting behind-the-scenes photos and the like.
