'Rick and Morty' season 3 air date, spoilers: New theory suggests surprise premiere set for December

(Facebook/RickandMorty)"Rick and Morty" season 3 may have a surprise December premiere.

Until now, "Rick and Morty" season 3 still doesn't have a release date and fans are getting antsy. It has been rumored that the upcoming season may have been delayed to 2017, but a new fan theory suggests that the series could premiere this December without notice.

Creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland are known for their different sense of humor, and fans are now speculating that they may be planning a surprise premiere for the third season. According to a Reddit thread, the surprise would make sense since that is the kind of thing "Rick and Morty" is known for.

Moreover, the discussion on the thread suggests plot theories that could potentially play out. One fan thinks that it would hilarious if Harmon and Roiland pick up the series with Rick already out of prison without any type of explanation. Another fan posits that it would be interesting if they were to do season 3 completely without Rick and just have him appear in the finale "like nothing happened."

According to reports, the third season's premiere episode will see Rick under the custody of the Galactic Federation after he turned himself in. It is believed that Rick will somehow escape, but it remains to be seen how he will pull off such a feat.

There were previous rumors circulating that indicated the third season's postponement. Despite what writers Erica Rosbe and Sabrina Carbiener said about having completed the script, a Redditor who claimed to be a design assistant on the show said that only nine episodes had been done out of 14.

Following this, speculations started spreading that the show may not make it in time for a December premiere due to five episodes still left unmade.

However, since none of these can be verified and neither Harmon nor Roiland have spoken out on the matter, fans are advised to take this news with a grain of salt.
