'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date: premiere at the end of 2016

(Facebook/RickandMorty)"Rick and Morty" season 3 will premiere at the end of the year.

Speculations have been rampant that the third season of "Rick and Morty" will premiere sometime in August. However, it would seem that the rumored month is way off as it has been revealed that the release date of the series will fall sometime at the end of 2016.

This much was confirmed by co-creator Dan Harmon. However, Harmon did not elaborate on the tweet posted by the official Twitter handle of the hit animated series, which sparked a lot of fans to go into a frenzy. As previously reported, the tweet told fans that "the wait for season 3 is now 30 mins longer!" While there were a number of fans who had different interpretations of the tweet, it seems that the rumor can finally be put to rest.

In other news, "Rick and Morty" fans were treated to some teasers recently that came via Twitter. Although the concept art teasers did not reveal any plot details or hints, they did manage to give fans a glimpse into the premiere episode of season 3.

The first teaser shows the concept art of the Gromflamite Prison General. The character is part of the Galactic Federation, the group holding Rick in jail.

The second teaser shows an empty garage. As fans know, Morty's garage is usually filled with Rick's experiments and contraptions. But with Rick gone, it would seem that there is no use for them anymore.

Season 3 of "Rick and Morty" will pick up from where the previous season left off. Rick will still be held by the Galactic Federation, while Morty and the others deal with problems of their own. Plot details are scarce, but it is expected that the new season will offer up a lot of exciting surprises for viewers and that everything has been taken up a notch.

In the meantime, fans can watch the improvised mini episode that took place at the San Diego Comic-Con.
