'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date, plot news: Series to return on Dec. 2?

(Facebook/RickandMorty)"Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to premiere on Dec. 2.

"Rick and Morty" fans are getting excited as rumors of the third season's release date continue to circulate. According to reports, the animated series will return to Adult Swim on Dec. 2.

It had been said that the very first season of "Rick and Morty" premiered on the same date, which is why a Dec. 2 release makes total sense. Moreover, an air date falling within the holiday season was previously already expected, based on what writers Erica Rosbe and Sarah Carbiener said.

As previously reported, Rosbe and Carbiener said that they had already completed the script of the third season. The two already sent it over to Vancouver to Bardel Entertainment, but they had not gotten a response from them at the time. Judging by the timeline and how much time it takes to animate, a December release is the most plausible and earliest date that was speculated.

It should be noted, though, that neither Adult Swim nor the creators, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, have confirmed anything of the sort.

Like the previous season, the upcoming installment will be equally interesting. However, it will also be dissimilar in some ways. The story will be quite different, but will still be heavily influenced by pop culture. One of the movies that is of great effect is "Logan's Run" from 1976. The film, which won an Academy Award, tells the story of a utopian/dystopian future where people who have reached the age of 30 are killed, in order to control population.

In other news, in order to momentarily keep fans at bay, animated shorts have been released as a Halloween special. These shorts, done in claymation, see Rick and Morty recreate iconic scenes from classic movies like "Halloween," "Ex Machina," and "Honey I Shrunk the Kids." Needless to say, the short clips are rather tame compared to the bizarre and otherworldly adventures Rick and Morty get into on a daily basis.
