The Samsung Galaxy J3 was introduced last year as part of the J Series along with its siblings, the Samsung Galaxy J1 and the Samsung Galaxy J5. This 2016, the J3 has received an upgrade and many people are wondering what's inside the box.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 is marketed as part of Samsung's low-end line as opposed to the S series and Note series. However, the device still has a $220 price tag which leave many people wondering whether it is worth it.

Looking at the new J3, it sports the same design as Samsung's low budget phones - round corners and chamfered edges. However, the plastic material used in its casing is smooth with a sparkly finish, giving it a much better aesthetic look than other low-end phones in the market.

The device is also equipped with a 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED screen, which is surprising for a budget phone, and an expandable storage which can hold up to 128 GB. Unlike Samsung's high-end phones, however, the J3 retained the removable battery feature. It is a 2400 mAh battery unit.

As for its hardware and software, the Samsung J3 uses a lower 32-bit quad core SoC with a speed of up to 1.5GHz and a 1.5 GB RAM. Compared to the other mid-level devices on the market which sports a Snapdragon 615 and 616 chipsets, the J3's Spreadtrum SC7731 is far below its competitors.

The device also has features that will be suffice to less demanding users. It is equipped with a Bluetooth 4.1, an NFC, and a single band 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. The Samsung Galaxy J3 also comes with the Lollipop 5.1.1 operating system which give users the usual Touch Wiz UI but not the other premium features of high end phones.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 comes in two variants in terms of internal memory - 8 GB and 16 GB.
