Samsung Galaxy Note 8 news, updates: Samsung confirms return of Galaxy Note series

Despite last year's Samsung Galaxy Note fiasco, the South Korean-based tech giant still intends to continue the line. And this year, it will be applying more safety measures to prevent the problem from ever recurring.

(Samsung website)Samsung is taking all measures not to repeat the scandal with the the Galaxy Note 7 (pictured).

Samsung mobile chief Koh Dong Jin recently made the announcement, finally putting all the rumors about a Galaxy Note 8 cancellation to rest. "I will bring back a better, safer, and very innovative Note 8," Koh said.

Although Koh has confirmed the development of the Note 8, he did not reveal further details about the device, just that they plan on making it safer compared to its preceding unit.

Continuing the Note line is a bold move for Samsung. But the company is not backing down anytime soon. Since they have concluded their investigation on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 problem, their next move is to rebuild market trust.

"We found through the investigative process, we knew there are lots and lots of loyal Note customers," Koh revealed.

Samsung Electronics America president Tim Baxter also revealed that there are existing Note 4 and 5 users who are still waiting for the company to provide a better upgraded smartphone. And that despite the massive recall, there is still an existing 4 percent of Galaxy Note units that are active.

According to Koh, the Galaxy Note 7 explosions were mainly caused by defective batteries placed in the units. These batteries were supplied by two of Samsung's partners. The tech giant, however, did not name these suppliers.

In Samsung's attempt to prevent the problem from recurring, it has placed a number of procedures. This, Koh said, is why the Samsung S8 will not be unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, which will begin on Feb. 27.

Koh did not give a specific date for the launching of the S8 nor did he reveal the launch date for the Note 8.
