'Scandal' season 5 release date, plot spoilers: Lizzie Bear is chief of staff, will Huck team up with Rowan?

Season 4 of "Scandal" ended with a finale that left a lot of viewers reeling. A lot of questions have surfaced and going in to Season 5, viewers expect these questions to be answered. One of the key story arcs that made a big impact was that of Huck suddenly working again for Rowan and murdering the grand jury that was supposed to hear Jake's confession about B613.

Will Olivia ever discover this and when she does, what will happen to Huck? But even before Olivia, Huck has to deal with Quinn, his ex-lover and Gladiator who knows the truth about the murders and has a gun to his head.  The finale did not say whether Quinn fired the shot, whether it killed Huck, or whether Huck was able to kill Quinn instead.

That in itself leads to a lot of complications down the road. If Huck lived, will he join the dark side completely and work with Rowan? And if he does, how will Olivia react to this? If Huck died, then that would be one favorite character out of the show, which viewers will also have to deal with.

There are reports (TV Line) that a new Gladiator will join Olivia (to fill in one of the positions vacated by Harrison and Abby, who is now White House press secretary), and the character set to play the new Gladiator is somebody which viewers have seen on the show before.

In an interview with TV Guide, Guillermo Diaz, who plays Huck, talked about the possibility of Huck continuing as a Gladiator. "I don't know. I wouldn't want to tell [Olivia]. I think this is something they'd probably keep a secret from her for a long time, maybe forever. I would imagine if Huck does live, these two would keep it a secret and not tell anyone. I don't know how you can work with someone who has done that. I don't know if Olivia would tolerate that and allow him to stay there after that."

Diaz said he has no idea how the story will go and shared that creator Shonda Rhimes unexpectedly changed the ending at the last minute. The initial finale would have shown Quinn walking away and Huck surviving, however, with Rhimes, anything is possible—she has shown she can kill off fan favorite characters without any remorse (right, McDreamy?).

Another big development from the Season 4 finale was the promotion of Elizabeth North aka "Lizzie Bear" to White House Chief of Staff, following Cyrus' firing and Mellie's exile from the White House. Season 5 will set the stage for North's revenge on Cyrus and Mellie for what they have done to her in the past. Plus with her new position of power, who knows what else she will be up to.

"Eli" Pope has also been arrested and Olivia's mother has been released out of prison.

Of course, one of the most memorable scenes from the Season 4 finale was the kiss shared by Olivia and Fitz. With Jake and Mellie's departure from their lives, it would seem like this is the start of their happy ending. However, Fitz is the President of the United States, so obviously, complications will arise. And fans expect to see what those are in Season 5.

Season 5 of "Scandal" will premiere in fall 2015.
