'Scream Queens' season 2 release date, spoilers: Emma Roberts to return for upcoming season; premieres in the fall

Emma Roberts confirmed to E! News during the Ralph Lauren Polo presentation at New York Fashion Week that she will be reprising her role as Chanel Oberlin for the second season of "Scream Queens." The show's upcoming season is set to premiere in fall.

"I'm so excited... because I can only imagine what the writers have in store for Chanel," she told the publication.

Roberts is not the only one returning for the second season. Lea Michele had previously expressed her interest in going back to play her role as Hester from the first season.

There will also be new characters coming in, including four new male characters who will be playing doctors. As to why there will be doctors, it has been previously reported that the setting of the series is moving out from the campus. Instead, avid viewers will expect more horrific blood scenes in a hospital. This had been officially confirmed by Fox. The network describes the new setting as the perfect place where "some most fascinating and bizarre medical cases are under observation."

Fox co-chairman/CEO Gary Newman spilled to reporters at the 2016 Winter TCA Press Tour on Jan. 15 (via E! Online), "Medical is an incredibly rich area to tell stories in. [Executive producer] Ryan [Murphy] has always loved [it]."

Meanwhile, co-chairman/CEO Dana Walden commented on the possible casting of the "Scream Queens 2," saying, "Ryan intends to bring some of the actors back from the first installment. I believe they will be in the same characters."

There are rumors, however, that one of the new male cast members will be Harry Styles of One Direction. This speculation surfaced when Michele told InStyle last year, "I don't know if this is true, but he [Ryan Murphy] said at a press thing recently that he is talking to a male pop star to come for next year. If it's Harry Styles, everybody better calm down."
