After years of hiatus, fans can now rejoice as BBC's hit series "Sherlock" season 4 has finished filming and is finally scheduled for release in early 2017. Aside from being excited about their long wait ending, the cast and crew reveal that fans should also be pumped about the darkest "Sherlock" season yet.

Last Saturday, Aug. 6, British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nominated director Benjamin Caron turned to Instagram to say, "It's a WRAP on #sherlock series IV 2016." More tweets from the director revealed that the cast and crew had a party to culminate the filming of season 4.

Though fans can't join their favorite characters in the festivities, knowing that the show is finally on its way is more than enough. The public is looking forward to promises the cast and crew have made — "lots of laughs and lots of great personal stuff," and a "myopically dark season" to name a few.

Although Moriarty, played by "Spectre" actor Andrew Scott, is set for a comeback in the fourth season, he will not be the vilest villain in the show. Sherlock, played by "The Imitation Game" actor Benedict Cumberbatch, will be facing a new villain in the upcoming season. This new villain will be played by English actor Toby Jones, who is known as the voice actor of Dobby in the "Harry Potter" series.

At last month's San Diego Comic-Con, Steven Moffat, one of the creators of the show, told audiences that Jones will play Culverton Smith, one of the "most evil villain" the show has ever had. Moffat describes the character as "horrific," according to a report by Collider.

On the other hand, co-creator Mark Gatiss who also plays Mycroft in the show describes Jones as "a complex shaded character." Gatiss said they gave the character terrible teeth to portray how rotten he is on the inside.

Season 4, however, is not all dark and gloomy. Reports say that John and Mary Watson, who are portrayed by real-life couple Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington, will be having a baby in season 4.

Fans will be seeing more of their favorite detective "Sherlock" in the early part of 2017.
