'Sister Wives' season 6 spoilers: Robyn in legal battles with ex-husband over children, Will Meri stay on?

(REUTERS/TLC/HANDOUT)Kody Brown (R) is seen with Robyn, Janelle, Meri, and Christine, the women he calls his wives, in a scene from 'Sister Wives.'

To say "Sister Wives" is a controversial show is to underscore the fact that it raises a lot of questions about what is legal and what is moral.

However, it has become a very popular show on TLC ever since it began airing in 2010, as it prompted people to raise questions and start numerous discussions on topics that were before shrouded in secrecy. The participants of the show themselves said that they want the public to be more aware of their unique family arrangement and explained that they want to battle the misconceptions and pre-judgment doled out by society.

"Sister Wives" focuses on Kody Brown, 46, and his polygamist family, which includes, four wives and 17 children. Though the arrangement might have raised some eyebrows, Brown insists that the arrangement is legal because he is only married to one woman and his other marriages are spiritual unions. The Brown family belongs to the Apostolic United Brethren (AUB), a polygamous Mormon fundamentalist church within the Latter Day Saint movement.

Brown's legal wife for 25 years was Meri Barber, 44. During their marriage, Brown took in and spiritually wed Janelle, 45, Christine, 42, and Robyn Sullivan, 36. In September 2014, Brown and Meri legally divorced, although they remain spiritually married. Brown went on to legally wed Robyn.

Viewers speculated that Brown decided to marry Robyn so she can retain custody of her three children from a previous monogamous marriage. These all played out during season five of the series and it is expected that season six will focus on the legal battles Robyn will have to fight against her ex-husband, who is also trying to claim custody over their children.

Speculations as to whether Meri will stay with Brown after the divorce are also in overdrive and many are hopeful that they will get the answer in season six.

Although, Brown and Meri insist that they are still in a spiritual marriage, there are signs that Meri might be ready to move on including wanting to finish her own education and achieving her dreams, especially that her only child, Mariah 18, is now away in college.

Her social media activities have also given fans more reason to speculate. On their 25th anniversary, Meri neither acknowledged nor replied to Brown's comments about staying together for another 25 years. She has also taken to posting about signs and dreams on Twitter.

Though there is little information known about what is in store in season six of "Sister Wives," many are adamant that it will focus on Robyn's fight with her ex-husband, which will take the limelight away from Meri. Fans of the show will just have to wait and sit tight to learn whether Meri will stay with the family or if she is already willing to go her own way.
