'Sons of Anarchy' prequel news: Charlie Hunnam too busy to reprise former role?

(Facebook/SonsofAnarchy)"Sons of Anarchy" prequel has not been confirmed.

"Sons of Anarchy" has been plagued with prequel rumors ever since star Charlie Hunnam teased fans of its existence. However, rumor now has it that should the prequel get green-lighted, Hunnam won't be a part of it.

Hunnam, who played Jax Teller on the FX series, revealed in an interview with Men's Journal that a prequel was being worked on by "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter. "Kurt is trying to get it going," he said.

And since Hunnam's character died at the end of "Sons of Anarchy," it would make sense for him to return in a prequel. However, recent reports are claiming that Hunnam may not be open to the idea of starring in one anymore.

The English actor apparently has a very tight schedule. He is set to star in Guy Ritchie's "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword," playing the titular role of King Arthur. However, since Hunnam has not confirmed this himself, there may be hope yet.

If Hunnam does not end up reprising his role, though, there is one other big celebrity name that might make it to the small screen. It has been rumored that Brad Pitt will be playing John Teller, Jax's father. Since it is a prequel, it would make sense for John to make an appearance. The rumor was further fueled when Hunnam pointed it out in the same interview.

There is also another rumor claiming that Hunnam and Sutter may not be on good terms. Hunnam himself has said that "there has been security rushing onto set and pulling us apart before." But again, this could just be an exaggeration and the rumors may not be true.

A prequel has not been confirmed by FX yet, so fans should take this news with a grain of salt. However, a "Sons of Anarchy" spin-off is already in development. Unlike the original FX series, the spin-off, titled "Mayans MC," will focus on the Mayans, a motorcycle club that SAMCRO has a rivalry with previously.

"Mayans MC" does not have a specified release date as of the moment.
