'Star Wars: Episode 8' cast news, rumors: Tom Hardy talks making a cameo appearance as a stormtrooper

If Daniel Craig can sneakily dress up as a stormtrooper for a "Star Wars" movie, then Tom Hardy surely can as well. Rumors have been running rampant that Hardy may make a cameo appearance as one of the Empire's army soldiers in "Star Wars: Episode 8." But is there any truth to that?

If Hardy were to be asked, the answer would be to play coy. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor was rather surprised by the question thrown at him.

"I don't know if I can even say that," he said. "Where did you hear that?"

A quick Google search on "Star Wars" rumors will easily turn up hundreds of results on Hardy's supposed involvement in the sequel. And while the actor did say that "the internet is a glorious web of deceit and misinformation," he also didn't give an outright denial of the rumor.

When asked if the rumor is simply misinformation, Hardy said, "It could be, couldn't it?"

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was met with wide critical acclaim and scored huge in the box office. However, what made the film extra special was the amount of cameos that were featured, including James Bond himself. Craig played the stormtrooper that Daisy Ridley's Rey used the Force on to obey her command, which ultimately allowed her to escape.

However, it did seem like Hardy denied the rumor while speaking to Vanity Fair. "That's like [Christopher] Nolan territory. I can't tell you anything. And it'd be good to know myself," he said. But fans should keep in mind that Hardy has also branded himself a "professional liar."

But even if Hardy does not end up making a cameo appearance in Episode 8, fans should still look forward to the film, which will highlight Rey's relationship with Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker — one that has been surrounded by intrigue ever since viewers witnessed the ending of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

"Star Wars: Episode 8" will premiere on Dec. 15.
