'Star Wars: Episode 8' plot rumors, news: Trademark filing reveals possible 'Forces of Destiny' subtitle

(Facebook/starwarsmovies)"Star Wars: Episode 8" will premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.

With "Star Wars: Episode 8" a year away, fans expected that Disney would have announced the official subtitle by now. And while it has been shrouded in mystery thus far, a new trademark filing may have just revealed the film's name.

According to AVSForum, Lucasfilm recently filed for a trademark to the European Union Intellectual Property Office. The trademark was for "Star Wars Forces of Destiny." The media outlet notes that, along with the name being trademarked, Lucasfilm also submitted a list of merchandise and services that the name will come with.

Apparently over 2,000 words long, the list consists of products ranging from office supplies like staplers and Christmas ornaments to toys and apparel. The most intriguing of them all is that motion picture films are also included.

Right now, though, Disney or Lucasfilm has yet to confirm or deny reports alleging that Episode 8 will be subtitled "Forces of Destiny," although it is not too far-fetched. For this reason, fans are advised to take this news with a grain of salt.

So far, no teasers or trailers have been released for the upcoming sequel, which is quite curious — especially considering that many expected "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" to arrive with some sort of clip from Episode 8.

The idea of the film being released without a preceding trailer is surely an exciting one, since "Star Wars" is a known brand that needs no introduction or marketing. Adam Driver, who plays Kylo Ren, recently spoke to Cinema Blend and gave his two cents on the notion.

"I think that'd be bold. I'd love it, yeah! Then no one would know anything. The less people know, I feel like, the more exciting... the more of an event it is," Driver said.

However, fans can still expect promotional campaigns--including a trailer or two--for "Star Wars: Episode 8." People are definitely looking forward to the release of the sequel, which will not disappoint, according to Captain Phasma actress Gwendoline Christie.

"Star Wars: Episode 8" will premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.
