'Star Wars: Episode 9' release date, rumors: Final film in trilogy to begin production in April 2017?

(Facebook/starwarsmovies)'Star Wars: Episode 9' is rumored to begin filming in April 2017.

"Star Wars: Episode 9" is still three years away, but rumors have already started to surround the upcoming film. With production for Episode 8 done, it has been said that Episode 9 will start filming in April 2017.

According to ProjectCasting, "Star Wars: Episode 9" will apparently begin production at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England, next year. Colin Trevorrow is set to helm the film. And with an enormous amount of time before its release, it definitely looks like Episode 9 is going to be the biggest in the trilogy.

However, since this report has not been confirmed yet, fans should take this news with a grain of salt.

But before Episode 9 even hits theaters, there are still two "Star Wars" films set to premiere. The first one is "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," which tells the story of how the Rebellion was able to retrieve the blueprints of the Death Star. The film will premiere on Dec. 16 this year.

"Star Wars: Episode 8," on the other hand, will not land in theaters until Dec. 15, 2017. That is still a year away, and the film does not even have an official subtitle yet.

However, it has been said that Episode 8 will be worth the wait. A lot of speculations about the storyline of the upcoming film have been circulating online, but a particularly popular one involves Daisy Ridley's Rey and her parentage. Gwendoline Christie, who played Captain Phasma in "The Force Awakens" and is set to reprise her role in Episode 8, previously teased that the film will not disappoint.

As for what lies beyond the current trilogy, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy weighed in on the subject while speaking to Entertainment Weekly in November. She revealed that they are still discussing the future of the franchise--debating over whether to continue making trilogies or stick to standalone films like the upcoming Han Solo movie starring Alden Ehrenreich.

"That's a conversation going on right now, too. I have to honestly tell you, could we [do nothing but stand-alones]? Sure. But I don't know. We are looking at all of that," Kennedy admitted.

Since everything is still up in the air at the moment, the best thing fans can do is wait.
