'Star Wars' Han Solo film news: Spain, Italy to be filming locations; Donald Glover talks pressure of playing Lando Calrissian

(Reuters/MARIO ANZUONI)Donald Glover is feeling the pressure of playing a young Lando Calrissian, a role originated by Billy Dee Williams.

With the "Star Wars" Han Solo spin-off slated to begin production in February, rumors involving the filming locations have started circulating online. And if they are to be believed, then fans can look forward to more beautiful beaches, as they did with "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

According to reports, the upcoming Han Solo movie will shoot in one of the Canary Islands — Fuerteventura, to be precise. The island, geographically located off the coast of Africa, is politically a part of Spain. Fuerteventura features a beautiful sandy beach with splashes of fresh greenery. It will certainly remind fans of the beachy location featured in "Rogue One," which continues to top box office charts. In "Rogue One," Maldives was used as a filming location.

However, as reports point out, Fuerteventura is also home to beautiful mountains. This means that the Han Solo film could either shoot in the beachy area or in the more mountainous region of the island.

Apart from the Spanish island, it is also believed that the "Star Wars" Han Solo spin-off will shoot scenes in Italy, although it remains to be seen which city.

The upcoming film will star Alden Ehreinreich as the young Han Solo, a role Harrison Ford originated. "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke has also been cast in an unspecified role, while Woody Harrelson is reportedly in talks to join as a mentor figure to Han.

Donald Glover, who recently won two Golden Globes for his FX series "Atlanta," is set to portray a young Lando Calrissian, which was originally played by Billy Dee Williams. Glover has said that his character will still be trying to define what "cool" is in the spin-off. And while speaking to the press backstage at the recent awards ceremony, Glover revealed the pressure of being a part of the "Star Wars" franchise.

"Lando's a big deal. He's the first toy I ever got," he said. "It's interesting, when you have something iconic in a range when people pay attention to it, it's hard. You want to live up to the expectation, but you can only live up to your own." Overall, though, Glover thinks that the most important thing is to have fun.

The "Star Wars" Han Solo standalone film is expected to premiere on May, 15, 2018.
