Star Wars: The Force Awakens plot, cast news: new leaked photos surface of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

(Reuters/Danny Moloshok)“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” photos of Carrie Fisher as Leia has leaked online.

Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia has always been an iconic character ever since she played the role in "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi." And how iconic it is, is evidenced by the number of times her trademark double-bun hairdo and costume have been replicated.

With the announcement that Fisher would reprise her role as Princess Leia in the seventh movie of the series,"Star Wars: The Force Awakens," many fans were excited to find out what has happened to their favorite character after all these years. The two trailers released never showed Princess Leia, but it seems like people have just been given the confirmation that she will return, due to a few leaked photos of Fisher, wearing her well-known costume.

The leaked photos, which appeared to be of Fisher during a wardrobe fitting, were included in a video posted in YouTube by That Hashtag Show. Fisher is shown wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt and pants paired with a black sleeveless jacket, boots and a black belt with a silver buckle. Fisher's hair is styled into a one-sided pony tail. The video report further said that the wardrobe is very similar to what the soldiers on Leia's ship in "Star Wars: A New Hope" were wearing when Darth Vader attacked in the opening sequence.

The photos are actually in line with the initial drawings of Princess Leia's costume and hairstyle, which were posted on the MakingStarWars website in January and many are expecting to hear more details about the photos at the Comic-Con International: San Diego this July.

As to what role Princess Leia will play in the upcoming movie, it is reported that 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi," Leia will be occupying a leadership position in the Resistance movement, which will take on the remaining forces of the Empire. With the death of the Emperor and Darth Vader, a new villain has emerged, in the person of Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis).

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens," directed by J. J. Abrams, will be released on December 28, 2015. It will feature returning stars Fisher, Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca).

Other cast members include Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong'o, Miltos Yerolemou, Max von Sydow, Jessica Henwick, Christina Chong, Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
