New life has been breathed into "Super Smash Bros 4" with the inclusion of non-Nintendo characters like Mega Man and Ryu in its player roster. The former is a popular Capcom character while the latter made its mark in Street Fighter. The company recently secured its biggest coup yet with the news that Cloud Strife of "Final Fantasy VII," along with other characters, will be coming to "Super Smash Bros 4" before the year ends.

According to "IGN," the good news was revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct event. Fans were also told that they will be getting more "Super Smash Bros 4" news in December. Some are hoping that this would include news that more of their favourite characters will be included in a soon to be released DLC for the brawler game.

It was virtually unheard of before to have characters from other game universes or consoles to crossover into another. But "Super Smash Bros 4" has not only broken that rule, it has thrived on the "what-if this player goes up against this player" scenario. This is also a big boon to gamers who are only too happy to play popular characters in a completely different arena.

Cloud Strife is just the latest character to be included in the game. Aside from the aforementioned characters, Sonic the Hedgehog and Pac-Man have also been integrated in the game. And with the "Fighter Ballot" in place, gamers would undoubtedly add more players.

The "Fighter Ballot" is the brainchild of "Super Smash Bros 4" director Masahiro Sakurai and his development team. The idea of the ballot was to give gamers the opportunity to decide which fighters will be added to the game and the only criteria in place is that the nominated character has to be from a video game. This means that it's inevitable that the gaming world's various universes and characters will collide.

Voting ended on October 3 and the ballot page was subsequently taken down. And judging by recent revelations, fans apparently believed it was high time for Cloud to head to "Super Smash Bros 4." It should also be pointed out that Nintendo has not made any announcement that Cloud is the winner of the last round of voting, only that he will be coming to the game. So fans are hoping that other third-party characters will be added as well.

There's no specific date set yet for Cloud's arrival in "Super Smash Bros" but a DLC, along with other news, is expected to be revealed in December.
