Excitement over the upcoming season 2 of Melissa Benoist's "Supergirl" continues to build up. After it was reported that Superman will appear in the first episode of "Supergirl's" second season run, fans can expect more characters to pop up in the series as the story and adventures of the Girl of Steel are told.

According to TV Line, "Supergirl" showrunner Greg Berlanti is adding five more characters to the series, including Lex Luthor's younger sister: Lena Luthor. The character is described to be between 25 and 35 years old and heads to National City, in order to escape from the shadows of her brother. She is smart, sexy, and a go-getter — always determined to get what she wants. However, as to what she wants from National City and Supergirl, it remains unclear as of this writing.

Another new character to be introduced as series regular in "Supergirl" is Nick Farrow, the son of a famous reporter. In his quest to make a name for himself in the world of journalism, Nick will be at loggerheads with Kara, the Girl of Steel's alter ego. He is described as someone who is brash, but he may just reveal the hero in him as he hangs out with Kara.

"Supergirl" will also usher in the characters of The Doctor, Snapper Carr, and Maggie, not as series regulars, though, but as recurring characters. The Doctor is described as the evil leader of Project Cadmus who implants prisoners with alien technology. On the other hand, Snapper Carr is a veteran journalist who has been tasked by Cat to revert the news department to old school. Finally, Maggie is the proudly lesbian detective working for the Science Police, which takes charge of metahumans and alien threats cases.

Meanwhile, it remains unclear if Lynda Carter will still be part of "Supergirl" season 2. It can be recalled that the former "Wonder Woman" star was reported in March to be joining the series for another powerful role.

"We're going to do it, we'll just do it next year," said Andrew Kreisberg, "Supergirl" co-executive producer.

"All right, she's the female president of the United States," said Kreisberg in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"Supergirl" season 2 is expected to occupy the Monday night timeslot on The CW this fall.
