Terminator 5: 'Genesis' labeled as 'stand-alone'

(Movie Pilot)

The highly-anticipated return of the Terminator franchise is starting to take shape, and hardcore fans will have to brace for intense explosives and stunts.

Set to be released in 2015, Terminator: Genesis, is currently filming in New Orleans. The script was penned by Shutter Island writer, Laeta Kalogridis, and Drive Angry writer, Patrick Lussier, with the movie being produced by Megan Ellison, who's also responsible for the Academy Award-nominated flick, Zero Dark Thirty. Other executive producers include Paul Schwake (Into Darkness, Star Trek, World War Z), and Dana and David Goldberg.

The statement released by Skydance productions says that Genesis is the "first in a stand-alone trilogy," meaning that it is a "rebooted" movie other than a continuation of the past Terminator movies. This could mean that new characters will be introduced in the new installment.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will of course, reprise his role as the title lead. Game of Thrones' star, Emilia Clarke is set to star in Genesis, continuing a legacy of Sarah Connors in Terminator, while Jason Clarke will play John Connor. It is quite unreal how the two Clarkes were booked to play the two Connors in the film, though it only makes the casting more interesting. Jai Kourtney will portray Kyle Reese, the Human Resistance soldier in the post-apocalyptic world.

Terminator: Genesis will be distributed worldwide on July 1, 2015.
