The second season finale of CW's "The 100" aired more than five months ago and unsurprisingly, fans are already very antsy to find out how the story would play out come the premiere of the third season.

Thankfully, not only were fans made aware that the upcoming season would show three more episodes than the last, but the cast and crew of the series have also begun spilling details about season three and by the looks of it, the show's return would see a whole lot of change.

"The 100," which first aired last year in March 2014, is a post-apocalyptic drama television show based on the novels of Kass Morgan of the same name. It follows several juvenile prisoners banished on the surface of the earth 97 years after a devastating nuclear war that has forced the last remaining humans to live in a space station around the planet's orbit. The prisoners were tasked to determine whether or not the planet is habitable in a program in which the show was named after, "The 100."

The show has since received positive reviews from both critics and viewers alike. Its debut saw the highest ratings for its timeslot for The CW since the premiere of "Life Unexpected" four years prior. It has been nominated for several awards, ultimately bagging the Saturn Award for Best Youth-Oriented program.

Recently, Jason Rothenberg, executive producer of "The 100," spilled details about the premiere of the upcoming season. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rothenberg shared that Clarke and Bellamy parting ways would signal a shift in roles for the show.

"Season three will present us with some new dynamics for sure. I don't want to talk too much about season three as we're in the planning stages and breaking stories and starting to write it very shortly. But Clarke isn't going to be home when we get there, for sure. Bellamy is a leader and is responsible and is a hero and will be recognized as such and given responsibilities that he's never had before," said Rothenberg.

The premiere for "The 100" season three has yet to be determined, however, the show is expected to return by 2016.
