'The Elder Scrolls 6' release date and updates: is the next TES a continuation of Skyrim?

(Facebook/ElderScrolls)"The Elder Scrolls 6" will reportedly be a continuation of Skyrim.

This year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will be rambling in in less than three weeks and a lot of gamers are hoping that Bethesda will have some new information about "The Elder Scrolls 6" by that time. Unfortunately, it seems that fans should not hold their breath for that.

The general consensus (or hope) is that "The Elder Scrolls 6" will be released next year, even though 2019 or 2020 would be a more realistic approximate, if the calculations would be based on Bethesda's schedule and track record. However, fans are still crossing their fingers that the game will be released early. But is it logical to hope for that?

"The Elder Scrolls" is undoubtedly one of Bethesda Games Studios best offering to date, having sold over 40 million units around the world. This action role-playing open world fantasy video game is touted as one of the most favorite video games of all time — thanks to the richly detailed and lush worlds of Morrorwind, Oblivion, and Skyrim.

But despite its popularity and the fans' increasing demand for the game's next installation, Bethesda has kept mum on when "The Elder Scrolls 6" will be released.

Fans shouldn't be too surprised with regards to the secrecy or even the long gaps between games, as Bethesda Softworks' VP of PR and Marketing, Pete Hines, already explained the company's mindset when it comes to releasing games during the last E3. According to Hines, they are more concerned with quality than quantity so they make sure that every game they come out with is noteworthy.

Aside from the company's keen attention to quality, there are also reports that Bethesda is focusing more on "Fallout 4" and its DLCs so the odds of having "The Elder Scrolls 6" on the company's docket are slim.

Fans shouldn't lose hope though. Bethesda confirmed via Twitter that it will be hosting another panel in E3 2016. What's interesting is that the tweet's corresponding image features characters from games like Doom, Dishonored, Fallout, The Evil Within, Wolfenstein and yes, Skyrim, whose continuation is rumored to be the basis of the next "Elder Scrolls."

While it's not confirmed that these characters will put in an appearance at the event, there's a chance that some of these games will be unveiled at the time.
