'The Elder Scrolls 6' release date: Game definitely in the works for 2018 launch?

(Facebook/ElderScrolls)"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" special edition will be released first before "The Elder Scrolls 6."

Bethesda has made it clear time and again that "The Elder Scrolls 6" is well within the company's plans. Regardless, fans have been getting antsy due to the lack of updates and a release date not being set. But it certainly looks like the game is still being worked on and that a launch is not going to be announced any time soon.

Some fans were disheartened when rumors started circulating that Bethesda had shifted its focus to developing "Fallout 4" instead of "The Elder Scrolls 6." However, this was not entirely confirmed by the company. Bethesda vice president Pete Hines has done his best to keep fans at bay, but it doesn't seem as if the uproar is going to die down.

Details about the upcoming game have been kept tightly under wraps, but Hines did assure fans that the sequel exists. "It's coming, just not as soon as you probably hoped," he said. "We aren't working on 'TES6' at the moment," Hines pointed out. However, he also said that the next installment is still "years and years away."

Todd Howard, director of "Fallout 4," has also spoken up on the matter, saying that "The Elder Scrolls 6" is still "a very long way off." Developing a game is certainly no easy task, especially if there is a lot of pressure coming from its loyal fan base. And it does seem like Bethesda has huge plans for the upcoming title, which is why the development is taking a long while to accomplish.

But fans can rest assured that the gaming studio is hard at work on the sequel. Hines even said that "The Elder Scrolls 6" is a bigger priority for them as opposed to remastering older titles like "Oblivion" and "Morrowind."

Currently, no release window has been officially set, but it is widely believed that "The Elder Scrolls 6" will drop sometime in 2018. In the meantime, fans can pass the time with "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" Special Edition, which will be released on Oct. 28.
