'The Elder Scrolls 6' rumor: release date set for June?

Bethesda Softworks, the studio responsible for the famous "The Elder Scrolls" video game series, just announced on Twitter earlier this month that it will be holding a press event in the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016. With the announcement came the speculation that they will finally release "The Elder Scrolls 6," successor to the highly regarded "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim."

The prediction is based on what Bethesda had done last year when they launched three different games ("Dishonored 2," "Doom" and "Battlecry") and topped them off with the role-playing game "Fallout 4." Avid gamers are saying they might just do the same with the possible sequel to "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim."

Critics are doubtful of this prospect, though, due to a number of potential lineups that the game studio may feature in the said upcoming event. For example, after they heavily featured "Dishonored 2" and "The Elder Scrolls Online" last year, updates are yet to be seen for these games. Moreover, they could also be working on some follow-ups for previously successful titles, such as the "Wolfenstein: The New Order" and "The Evil Within."

Bethesda's Vice President for Marketing Pete Hines had also pointed out last year that it will take time before they could face another big project such as "The Elder Scrolls 6," because their team still has their focus on the development of "Fallout 4," which is expected to be finally released in June this year.

Hines said in his interview with Telegraph, "It's rare to have franchises like the ones we have and to have people joking about 'when is 'Skyrim 2' coming out?'"

"[Other game publishers would] be spitting out a 'Skyrim 2' the year after or two years later. That's just not how we view it. We're not the sort of publisher that focuses on 'what's our 25 titles for 2015,'" he added.

Bethesda's E3 press conference is scheduled for June 12, 2016, at 7 p.m. PT. Fans will have to wait until then to hear any news for the much anticipated game.
