'The Flash' season 3 cast news, spoilers: Jesse Quick to return next season; 'Flashpoint' to also affect 'Arrow'

(Facebook/CWTheFlash)Violett Beane will reprise her role as Jesse Quick in season 3.

It might literally be a whole different world when "The Flash" returns for a third season.

"The Flash" season 2 ended with Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) using his speed to travel to the past and save his mother from being killed by the Reverse-Flash. Anyone who has watched sci-fi movies know that messing with the timelines is a big no-no. But Barry's decision does set the stage for Flashpoint to happen.

After months of speculations on whether the show will really do the story arc, Gustin finally confirmed via Twitter that Flashpoint is really happening. However, the star was also quick to point out that they will be "doing this FP thing our own way."

For those still in the dark, "Flashpoint" is the epic comic book crossover written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Andy Kubert. In the comics, Barry wakes up after saving his mother and finds that he's without powers. Furthermore, the world has changed, and probably not for the better. Roles have been reversed, with villains as heroes and the heroes Barry knows acting in a very unheroic way. In this timeline, Thomas Wayne is Batman, while a battle between Wonder Woman and Aquaman is threatening to destroy the world.

But aside from its interesting premise, fans are looking forward to Flashpoint for another reason — Jesse Quick. Actress Violett Beane has already confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Harrison Well's daughter in season 3. However, she said she doesn't know if she has powers or not. But her return has had fans speculating that they will soon be seeing the speedster Jesse Quick, something that Beane is hoping for as well.

"With the whole 'Flashpoint', anything can happen, right? It's literally open to any different kind of false reality," Beane explained to TV Line. "She could be Earth-One Jesse, she could be a speedster.... Who knows!"

Flashpoint might also affect The CW's other superhero shows, like "Arrow." At least, that's what "Arrow's" Stephen Amell hinted at. The story arc could also pave the way for the possible four-way crossover between "The Flash," "Arrow," "Legends of Tomorrow," and "Supergirl."

All will be revealed when "The Flash" season 3 commences on Oct. 4.
