Ryan Hardy has never had it easy on "The Following" and won't as Joe Carroll's execution date finally arrives. If spoilers and the episode's promotional clip are to be believed, Hardy will have to comply with Joe's demand or someone will die.

In episode 10 titled "Evermore", Joe's execution day is finally upon Hardy and his team. Rightfully so, they are on the edge since nothing is simple when Carroll is involved. Hollywood Hills reports that, as expected, Joe doesn't go down easy. Their fears are realized when Joe creates a hostage situation in his execution room and has only one demand. That demand is that Ryan watches him die. As the whole world watches, Ryan is forced to go alone and meet his nemesis.

The promotional clip shows that Carroll achieves the hostage situation by wounding or killing FBI personnel in his execution room. He may have used the tool he acquired in his previous episode, during the altercation with Gary, to wound FBI officers. However, towards the end of the promotional clip, Ryan is seen knocked down with his wrists bound. Joe tells him creepily, "You didn't think killing me was going to be easy, did you?"

Co-showrunner Alexi Hawley spoke to TVLine about Joe's execution day. He gets angry when Ryan refuses to be present. Because he refuses to tell him goodbye, Carroll becomes incredibly dangerous. Hawley teases, "Nobody's going to see what we're going to do coming. It might be one of the most shocking episodes we've done."

Moreover, Ryan will meet another villain of season three. This antagonist will play a major role in season four. When a character named Eliza enters the show, fans will see the new villain. Meanwhile, the show's other creator Brett Mahoney, teased to TVGuide that the finale will see a character's death and Gwen's relationship with Hardy as well as the Max/Mike/Tom situation will take center stage.

"Evermore" airs on Monday, April 27 at 9 p.m. ET on FOX.
