'The Fosters' season 4 spoilers: Will Mariana's worry for her twin be enough to save her?

(Facebook/TheFostersTV)Mariana has a lot to reflect on in the next season of "The Fosters."

Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) is a mess coming into the new season of "The Fosters." Will her twin's close call with death be enough to shake her up and make her realize her mistakes?

Fans are still worried about Jesus' (Noah Centineo) fate in the new installment, considering he collapsed after Nick (Louis Hunter) punched him. It all started when Mariana took Jesus' ADHD medicine with alcohol, making her hallucinate. She was heartbroken to learn that Mat (Jordan Rodrigues) might be changing schools and leaving for Boston. While inebriated, she thought Nick was coming after her when he was actually under house arrest. When he thought she was in danger, he broke his anklet and went to see her. Jesus thought he was attacking his sister and they fought. When it ended, Jesus was unconscious.

Executive producer Peter Paige has previously said that Mariana would have a lot to reflect on in the new season. She has been a total wreck ever since she chose to return to Mat. Mariana would never have thought that Nick was capable of doing what he did in the last installment. Coupled with her problems in school, she started to rely on Jesus' medication.

According to Paige, Mariana's predicament could happen to any teen who has bitten more that he/she could chew. The same thing applies to Brandon (David Lambert) and his wrong decisions.

"Brandon and Mariana are the two characters at the end of the season who are really aware of the choices they've made and the consequences they're paying because of those choices. They're the two who are really having to look at what they've done. I'm not sure everybody else is in that same place just yet," the EP shared in an interview with TVLine.

Meanwhile, Sherri Saum, who plays Lena in the series, has been updating fans of the progress they have made for the current season. In one of the photos she posted on her Twitter account, she was shown sitting with Maia Mitchell, who plays her foster daughter, Callie.

The cast and crew are currently busy shooting the scenes for the new episodes, which are slated to start airing on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
