The excitement for the movie sequel "The Incredibles 2" refuses to die down and, while details about the project are scarce, director Brad Bird has given updates. There are also several plot rumors making the rounds and the speculated release is in 2019.

Earlier this year, Collider has spoken to the director who revealed that writing is almost done. He said, "I have the story arc. I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it."

As for the release date, he said, "Release dates are a little fluid when you're making films so far in advance. Some films are tougher to come together and tough nuts to crack, and other one comes together a little more quickly, so I'm just going to work as fast as I can work well with a relatively small team."

In a more recent interview with the director, he told Entertainment Weekly that film production is actively moving and that they are excited about it. He also said they are hoping for the movie to come across as having the same characters and feel, but also said they are going on a new direction. He explained, "I mean, that's the trick with a sequel. It's repeating yourself, without repeating yourself."

The first movie was character-driven and family-centered. It started with Mr. Incredible struggling to live a normal life and still doing superhero work behind his wife's (Elastigirl) back. The children, on the other hand, are also starting to discover their powers, and situations forced them to work together to save the world.

Jack-Jack, the youngest of them all, was still a baby when the film was shown more than a decade ago. His powers then have been revealed but not showcased. It has been hinted, however, that he has more power than any one of them. Many are speculating that he will be the villain in the next movie, saying he will be lured by another villain to the dark side.

June 21, 2019 is the reported target release date of "The Incredibles 2" and more details are expected to be shared next year.
