The much-anticipated "The Incredibles 2" will not be released until June 29, 2019, but fans of the movie are getting worried with the lack of update about the film. In a recent interview, writer-director Brad Bird confirmed that the project is underway.

The movie has more than two years to go before its scheduled release but, given the amount of work that goes into creating an animation film, fans are waiting for news about the development. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bird was asked about the film and he said, "I don't like unwrapping presents before Christmas."

He did, however, confirm that work on the sequel has already started. He shared, "It's very actively moving, and we're excited about it. We're trying to take it in some new directions."

While "new directions" will be taken, he assured that viewers will be seeing the same characters with hopefully the same feel. He further explained, "I mean, that's the trick with a sequel. It's repeating yourself, without repeating yourself."

The writer-director has previously shared in an interview with IGN that he was in the middle of wanting a sequel and not wanting one, after the release of the first movie. He said he did not like the mentality that a successful movie should have a follow-up.

It has been more than a decade since the first film and he also said that he had many ideas about "The Incredibles" sequel over the years. However, none of them felt enough so he kept looking for something more. And now, he shares, "I think I've found that and now I'm at the point of seeing if I'm right."

Among the details he revealed about the sequel would be the obvious fact that it will no longer be about discovering powers for the kids. He also said that the story will be more character-driven than just showcasing their powers.

"The Incredibles 2" will be released in June 2019 and, until then, young and old alike can relive the adventures of the super family by watching the first film.
