'The Incredibles 2' release date: Production is moving forward, sequel to take a new direction

(Facebook/The Incredibles)"The Incredibles 2" will be showing in cinemas on June 21, 2019.

"The Incredibles 2" is moving along nicely, director Brad Bird revealed after keeping silent about the long-awaited sequel.

Fans finally have an update regarding "The Incredibles 2," which is set to arrive a decade-and-a-half after the first film. After the movie's announcement, details regarding plot and production status have been kept strictly under wraps, Movie News Guide reported. Now, Bird recently shared that it is "very actively moving."

"We're excited about it," Bird said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "[We're] trying to take it in some new directions."

However, the movie's director refused to divulge more about the sequel, saying he does not like "unwrapping presents before Christmas."

It is unknown how the movie will play out the superhero scene as a lot of superhero movies have been released since the original title in 2004. The EW report noted that the representation of superheroes in pop culture is different now than back then, so the sequel will have to take that into account without losing the nostalgia factor.

"Hopefully it's the same characters and feel, but going in a new direction," Bird said. "I mean, that's the trick with a sequel. It's repeating yourself, without repeating yourself."

The director previously told IGN that the movie will still be about the characters than it will be about the powers themselves.

As of now, it is unknown what direction the director is talking about. Some speculations around the internet include the character Syndrome coming back for revenge. The family might also face a huge test, as the villain is being rumored to try and turn the youngest member Jack-Jack against them.

However, it is not yet clear what age every family member will be once they return to the big screen, as a time jump has to be confirmed for now.

"The Incredibles 2" is set to hit U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.
