With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 over and done with this year, a number of gamers were left unhappy when no news about "The Last of Us 2" arrived. Since then, very little news or rumors about a release date for the game have surfaced on the Internet, other than the fact that it could arrive in 2018.

There were a number of rumors pertaining to a sequel in the "The Last of Us" game franchise before E3 kicked off this year. Many even speculated that the developer, Naughty Dog, would unveil the next game or even provide some hints about it during the exposition. As the gaming exposition drew to an end, it was clear that none of these rumors were ever going to actually pan out.

Now, a website has claimed that another new rumor has surfaced and it has pointed towards the "The Last of Us 2" being released in 2018. Since that is almost two years down the line, it is likely that the developer will not be revealing any official news about it soon.

Rounding up the other rumors about the "The Last of Us 2" game, it is thought that Naughty Dog has been petitioned by fans after the developer failed to bring out any news about the game during E3 2016. Elsewhere, there have been speculations that Neil Druckmann, the creative director for the game, has been working on it as it is already in development. Much of the same was stated by voice actor Nolan North, who provides the voice for David in the "The Last of Us" game and he also hinted that a sequel would be upcoming.

In spite of all these rumors about "The Last of Us 2," it is clear that gamers are still waiting for official information about the game from the developer Naughty Dog. However, given that there have been a number of slip-ups from employees within the company mentioning the game "The Last of Us 2," it is likely that it is in development. Also, if a release date is set for 2018, an official unveiling could be happening sometime this year or the next.
