If a fan of "The Leftovers" thinks that the upcoming third season of the series will not be exciting as the story ends the same way how it ends in the book, then, he should think again.

While HBO's "The Leftovers" is yet to return for its third and final season, this early on, fans are already speculating as to how it will end. After all, the series is based on the 2011 novel by Tom Perrotta, which carries the same title, and those who have read the novel can already expect that the small screen adaptation will end exactly how it does in the book.

The series follows the lives of the Garveys and their story in the wake of a post-apocalyptic-like setting wherein a small number of the world's population mysteriously disappears, an occurrence referred to as "Sudden Disappearance."

While the TV adaptation of the story will remain faithful to its book origin, as the series will end exactly the same with how it concludes in the novel, this doesn't mean that the fans are no longer up to no surprise. The viewers can, at least, watch out for the events that led the characters to its conclusion and feel the emotions that the scenes will evoke.

"Well, we started with the very end. We eventually said, what do we want to last scene of the series to be, who's in that scene and what's happening in that scene, what do we want to evoke emotionally? And then, on a storytelling level, what happens, what feels like finality in a show that has never been about resolving mystery and delivering conclusive endings, now that the show is actually going to end? And how do we want the audience to be feeling when it's all over," said Damon Lindelof, "The Leftovers" co-creator, in an interview with Deadline.

Meanwhile, as of this writing, the exact air date of "The Leftovers" season 3 remains unknown apart from the fact that it will not arrive on TV earlier than 2017. According to reports, the series is currently filming in Australia for most of its remaining scenes. It has also been learned that Lindsay Duncan is joining the cast for the series finale, although what role she exactly plays is being kept under wraps.
