'The Man in the High Castle' season 3 to have 'proper showrunner;' season 2 released on Dec. 16

The second season of "The Man in the High Castle" is already out, which means fans can finally binge-watch more episodes of the alternative history series. And while season 2 has only been out for a few days, some fans are already wondering what the next season will bring.

It is widely known that "The Man in the High Castle" was adapted from Philip K. Dick's novel of the same name. Executive producers David Zucker and Isa Dick Hackett (who is the daughter of the original author) recently spoke to Variety about the second season and revealed what other plans they had for future seasons.

"That will probably be easier to answer once we get ourselves around this next turn —needless to say getting ourselves through this next year, and all the focus has been most singularly on accomplishing everything that needed to be accomplished. It was quite a breathless effort on everybody's part," Zucker said.

The show has already extended the storyline beyond what was written in the novel, which means the writers have more room to expound on the plot and explore the lives of the different characters come season 3. However, the series needs to look for a new showrunner first before it can proceed.

"The Man in the High Castle" notoriously lost its original showrunner and creator, Frank Spotnitz, due to conflicts with Amazon Studios. Spotnitz had already completed work on about half of the season 2 episodes when he exited, and Zucker and Hackett continued where he left off. However, that does not necessarily mean that Zucker or Hackett will take over as showrunner/s when the new season rolls around.

"We intend to have in Season 3 a proper showrunner again," Zucker revealed. "A proper showrunner, a proper writer-producer that we would work with an in support of."

"The Man in the High Castle" season 2 has been getting good reviews thus far, with a 67 percent approval ratings from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The second season was released on Dec. 16 and can be viewed on Amazon Video.
