'The Maze Runner 3' news: Dylan O'Brien in recovery; shooting to resume May 15

Cancellation rumors shrouded "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" when it was revealed that one of the movie's stars, Dylan O'Brien, got into a terrible car accident while filming on set, which left him with numerous injuries. These rumors were subsequently squashed by a number of people involved in the film's production, including author James Dashner, who wrote the books from where the franchise is based upon.

Dashner addressed the rumors on his Twitter account, explaining that the film will not be canceled but will just merely be postponed.

20th Century Fox even issued a statement after the accident. "Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery," it reads.

Director Wes Ball also took to his Twitter account to post a long message about what happened.

Now, things are looking up for both fans and O'Brien as the latter was revealed to be recovering nicely. Giancarlo Esposito, who also stars in the film alongside O'Brien, told E! Online at "The Jungle Book" premiere that the "Teen Wolf" actor is "healing very well."

O'Brien was truly lucky to have survived through the entire ordeal, but it seems that luck wasn't the only thing that helped the 24-year-old actor. "I would imagine many who witnessed thought that was it... [But] he's a survivor. The one good thing about Dylan that I think is going to help him get back on schedule with us very soon is he has a great attitude," said his co-star.

Esposito also revealed that although production is temporarily halted at the wake of the incident, filming will begin once again in a little over a month — on May 15.

"The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is the third installment in the franchise, which means fans will soon get to witness the ending of the highly popular trilogy. The final film will premiere on Feb. 17, 2017.
