'The Originals' season 4 plot news, spoilers: 'Vampire Diaries' crossover to happen?

(Facebook / The Originals)The Mikaelsons have all fallen and rumor has it that the Salvatore brothers will come along to help

The Mikaelsons are in grave danger as Klaus remains entombed and his siblings are somewhere suffering in pain. However, there seems to be hope for the clan as recent reports suggest that the Salvatore brothers from "The Vampire Diaries" may come over to help.

In the finale of "The Originals" season four, viewers saw how Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) claimed the blood of his fallen friends and the suffering of his people by burying the Tunde Blade into Klaus' (Joseph Morgan) heart.

Aside from Klaus, his other family members are also suffering and almost dying. Thanks to Freya's (Riley Voelkel) dependable capabilities, the other Mikaelsons' lives have been tied to Klaus. However, this could also spell further danger. Since the entire Mikaelson clan holds on to Klaus for life, they will also undoubtedly pass away once Klaus is killed.

Is there hope for the fallen Originals? Probably. Some reports suggest that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) may drop by New Orleans when season four arrives. According to The Christian Times, the time jump between the previous installment and the upcoming episodes makes a crossover possible. However, the speculations have not been confirmed.

If the Salvatore brothers make it to New Orleans, there is a good chance they will help awaken Klaus from his pain-induced slumber. As fans may already know, Caroline (Candice King) from "The Vampire Diaries" has a very close bond with Klaus. It can be assumed that Caroline may also appear in the upcoming season of "The Originals" so she can ask Damon and Stefan to help the Mikaelsons rise again.

The big question is, will Marcel ever allow this to happen? Of course not. As executive producer Michael Narducci put it in May, Marcel is one who only thinks of keeping peace in his town. Narducci told TV Guide: "He [Marcel] is a leader...He definitely has perspective and the Mikaelsons kind of messed up. They did something that was, by Marcel's judgment, morally reprehensible. Now he's taken his revenge."

The plot for the new episodes have yet to be revealed but based on the spoilers, fans can expect a big battle between the hybrids of New Orleans in case Klaus wakes up to also take his revenge on Marcel.

"The Originals" season four is expected to premiere sometime early 2017.
