Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) will soon learn that the hated Mikaelsons are still alive and are being kept safe somewhere by Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) in the upcoming season of "The Originals."

During the last installment's finale, Marcel thought he succeeded in purging New Orleans of the Originals. Rebekah (Claire Holt), Freya (Riley Voelkel), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) were supposed to die due to his poison, but the witch saved them at the last minute. Freya sent their souls to a different realm and tethered their lives to Klaus' (Joseph Morgan). The hybrid was meant to spend eternity in pain, unable to move with the stake embedded on his heart.

Hayley was last seen leaving the city leading a caravan with the Mikaelsons' bodies. She must be bringing them to a place away from Marcel, where they can rest safely until Freya figures out a way to bring all of them back to reality.

Executive producer Michael Narducci told TV Line the reprieve would not last long, as Marcel would soon learn that Elijah and the others are not dead. He would also likely figure out that Hayley holds the key to their whereabouts and starts targeting her.

"Very soon after the end of our finale, because the Elijah line of vampires won't drop dead, Marcel is bound to figure out that Elijah is still alive. And when he does that, he'll think, 'Maybe Kol's not dead either. Or Freya.' All he has as collateral is the long-suffering body of his sire, who's entombed in an undisclosed place. There are a lot of rich, interesting things to play with moving forward. But the question is: Is this family permanently destroyed, and is Marcel going to be their enemy forever?" the EP shared.

Meanwhile, Narducci also told TV Guide that the upcoming season would be jam-packed with interesting storylines. Marcel and Hayley will both have difficult jobs to do. Marcel is once again the ruler of New Orleans and he has a lot of things on his mind. Hayley has to take care of her daughter alone while keeping watch over the sleeping vampires. According to the showrunner, fans can expect that the Mikaelsons will soon wake up from their slumber after a time jump.

"The Originals" season 4 is expected to return midseason next year.
