AMC's highly anticipated 'The Walking Dead' Season 5 will premiere in a month, and fans can't wait to see what will happen to the lead characters after a major cliffhanger at the end of the previous season.

Meanwhile, new characters will be given more depth, including Dr. Eugene Porter's backstory which will be prominently featured.

Porter was introduced in the last season with two companions protecting him, Rosita and Abraham, as they searched for a way to Washington, D.C.

Dr. Porter believes that he has the cure for the outbreak and there is little known about his origin. The next season will shed light to his past, as the backstory about him is expected to be explored.

Josh McDermitt, the actor who plays Dr. Porter in the series, revealed in an exclusive interview with website, Wetpaint, the plan to recall the earlier life of his character.

"We're really going to jump into the backstory of Eugene a little more in Season 5. There really wasn't a lot of time to get to know him, but we're going to get to know him a little better, which is great," McDermitt said in the interview with Wetpaint.

McDermitt added that the the fifth season will be more "intense," and "wild."

"In terms of tone, everything's just more intense, more so than anything I've ever seen in anything we've ever done. It's wild and it goes a thousand miles an hour, and we start to see them as they just hit the ground running," the actor added.
